then why does it say “oh people of the book” OVER and OVER?

The term "People of the Book" is mentioned 67 times in 33 ayahs of The Quraan.

As the word "Book" is singular, it refers to one book, that is the Tawraah which Allaah revealed to Prophet Moossa. Initially the term referred to the Jews.

As Prophet Eessa came in the capacity of a Messenger of Allaah to the Children of Israel to confirm the Tawraah, the term extended to cover the Nassaara (later called Christians).

The Jews refer to the Tawraah and the rewritten forms of thereof, such as the Talmood and the Tanakh, while the Christians, who have no book of revelation, refer to the Gospels written by anonymous authors. The fact is that that the Injeel which Allaah revealed to Eessa was a form of "Prophetic Wisdom" with which Prophet Eessa faced the Rabbis.

"O People of the Book" in The Quraan

There is neither "gospel" nor "torah" in The Quraan.

In The Quraan there is reference to the Tawraah which Allaah revealed to Prophet Moossa.

In The Quraan there is reference to the Injeel which is the Prophetic Wisdom which Allaah revealed to Prophet Eessa ibna Maryam.

The Jews corrupted the Tawraah, and the Christians wrote the Gospels to claim that these are the Injeel.

Say (O Muhammad), "O People of the Book, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allaah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allaah." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Musslims [submitting to Allaah]."

O People of the Book, why do you argue about Abraham while the Tawraah and the Injeel were not revealed until after him? Then will you not reason?

O People of the Book, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allaah while you witness [to their truth]?

O People of the Book, why do you confuse the truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know [it]?

Say (O Muhammad), "O People of the Book, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allaah while Allaah is Witness over what you do?"

Say (O Muhammad), "O People of the Book, why do you avert from the way of Allaah those who believe, seeking to make it [seem] deviant, while you are witnesses [to the truth]? And Allaah is not unaware of what you do."

O People of the Book, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allaah except the truth. The Al-Masseehu Eessa Ibnu Maryam, was but a Messenger of Allaah and His word which He directed to Maryam and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allaah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allaah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allaah as Disposer of affairs.

O People of the Book, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. There has come to you from Allaah a light and a clear Book.

O People of the Book, there has come to you Our Messenger to make clear to you [the religion] after a period [of suspension] of messengers, lest you say, "There came not to us any bringer of good tidings or a warner." But there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allah is over all things competent.

Say (O Muhammad), "O People of the Book, do you resent us except [for the fact] that we have believed in Allaah and what was revealed to us and what was revealed before and because most of you are defiantly disobedient?"

Say (O Muhammad), "O People of the Book, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord." And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.

Say (O Muhammad), "O People of the Book, do not exceed limits in your religion beyond the truth and do not follow the inclinations of a people who had gone astray before and misled many and have strayed from the soundness of the way."
